According to estimates, approximately one-third of individuals with type 2 diabetes also suffer from chronic kidney disease. Both of these long-term conditions elevate the likelihood of experiencing a stroke or heart attack. Recent research has discovered that a medication currently prescribed for those with type 2 diabetes and/or chronic kidney disease who face additional heart disease risks can also reduce their chances of having a stroke or heart attack. Researchers suggest that around 840 million individuals worldwide are affected by chronic kidney disease, a condition that progressively harms the kidneys, resulting in a decline in their function. Additionally, an estimated 828 million individuals globally are diagnosed with diabetes, which occurs when the body either does not use or produce insulin effectively. Up to 95% of those with diabetes are identified as having type 2 diabetes.
